Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I felt like a learned a substantial amount in just ten weeks. Since most of the course is taught in Japanese exclusively it really helped me to learn quickly and develop my oral skills. There was homework three times a week but it was very easy to do and easily graded. Plus it there were mistakes you could resubmit the assignment for full credit. There was a quiz every week but they were relatively easy. The two big chapter test were a bit difficult but if you pay attention in class all the material was covered and a study guide was given.

    Course highlights:

We covered topics such as learning both hiragana, katakana, and some kanji. The chapters that were covered included basics, my town, and classmates. By the end of the quarter I could read and write; I was even texting in Japanese. The TA I had was an exceptional teacher as well.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Practice speaking and listening the most. Also in the beginning really make sure to learn the kana because after a few weeks everything is written in kana only (no English). The test are also timed so if you are a slow reader it will be very difficult to finish in time.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I definitely loved this class. I learned about the heritage and culture about the Japanese. It was very insightful.

    Course highlights:

I loved the teacher. She was incredibly interesting and made me want to learn more about Japanese as a language and as a culture.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

For students considering this course, I would suggest studying hard because they need to be able to buckle down and focus on this class in order to succeed.
