    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Renee is an amazing teacher and this course opened my eyes to the degree to which mental illness shapes our society. It’s a lot of information and the course is challenging, but ultimately my entire world view was enhanced due to my expanded knowledge of mental disorder.

    Course highlights:

We learn so much about how our brain can malfunction! It’s a bit unnerving but also really cool to understand not just how much our brain controls, but also the impact that one’s environment can have on their mental health.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Always do the reading and always go to lecture. If anything, it’s worth it to go to lecture simply because Renee is a great speaker and she is wonderful at conveying large amounts on information in palatable chunks. But most importantly, try to engage deeper with the material, because ultimately my favorite part about the course was how much I can see myself utilizing information I had learned when going about my everyday life.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course is an amazing introduction to psychopathology. Prof. Mittal lectures clearly and in an interesting fashion that draws in his students' attentions.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to understand the different abnormalities in psychology, and more importantly, how to empathize with the patients of these abnormalities. I learned to not be judgmental of the persons who cannot control the struggles that they must face in their everyday lives.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to office hours. Prof. Mittal is very approachable and wants his students to get the most out of this course.
