    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

It's an intro class so it is a required class. If you're at all interested in Photo I would encourage you to take it because it gives you a feel for what the department would be like. It's also a good class for learning more about the history of photography. The Critiques are very relaxed and helpful as well.

    Course highlights:

I think the assignments were the highlight of the class for me because they were all very open ended and we were allowed to photograph anything we found interesting. I would say I learned a lot about how my photos came off to others in the critiques which is a valuable thing to know.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Branch out when you're doing your assignments and try a lot of different things but always try to think about what the photos will look like on the wall as one cohesive unit as well as individually. The way they're arranged and how they relate to each other will drastically change the way that they're read and critiqued.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Well, it is required so you'd have to take it any way. However, it is really helpful in getting to know the facilities of the school and how to use them appropriately.

    Course highlights:

I really liked the intro into many different areas while still maintaining the freedom to choose what you wanted to do. I was able to try out a lot of different things including the woodshop, the sewing machines, the plaster shop and working with photoshop and the media center.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Do your best with all of the projects regardless of how ridiculous they may seem at the time. I found out that I'm really into sculpture and now I'm going to be taking a class completely focused on that next semester because I really liked it. You'll never know what you'll find in core that you're really into.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

If you are interested in pursuing a degree in photography, you absolutely must take this class. (Seriously, it's a prerequisite.) The class will involved a series of projects that test your ability to connect with your camera and subjects captured. It is a great class that will push you to really consider how you wish to portray whatever is on the other side of your lens, and in addition make you think about others' work and dissect key elements.

    Course highlights:

I learned to be more thoughtful during critiques and also how to really consider color when it comes to my prints.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Get to know your camera and make sure to calibrate your computer before printing! And don't be afraid to speak during critiques - there really is such a minuscule amount of things you can say that are wrong!
