    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course was entirely too in-depth for an introduction to music history class. Listening to music and picking out the beat, rhythm, meter, and syncopation was way beyond the scope in my opinion. Also, the professor frequently canceled classes, which required us to go through the material at an accelerated pace.

    Course highlights:

I learned to appreciate classical music. We listened to many different genres of music and a lot of it to include classical. During these listening exercises, the professor would have us close our eyes and listen to the music she played. Before this class, I never gave classical music much attention, but it was surprisingly soothing and beautiful.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not take it if you can take something else that meets the requirement this course covers. However, if you have to take the class, practice as much as you can with the listening exercises. Ask the instructor to replay the in-class listening exercises if you do not hear what they are trying to point out in the music sample. Also, go to office hours to for more practice with the instructor.
