Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The material itself is a little dry but is still interesting to learn about. The biggest issue with this course is that the lecture, lab, and assigned readings didn't flow very well together. It felt like I was in three different genetics classes because each of these were on such different topics. That being said, I learned much more from this class than I expected to. A side note - she gave out little Giant Microbe plushies (you can find them online) when she wanted to bribe the class to answer a question. If you got three plushies, she gave you a petra dis to keep them in. As an introvert who likes plushies, this was a great way to get me to participate.

    Course highlights:

This class gives you a very good introduction into genetics and genetic studies. There was a really strong focus on the mechanisms of mitosis and meiosis during the lecture.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If you take it with Blakey, be prepared to scribble her slides down. She doesn't post them and she can go quite fast through them. She also has a tendency to go off on tangents, which are interesting nonetheless, but you don't know if it's part of the lecture or not. Any time she draws something on the board, DRAW IT and listen as she explains it. This was especially helpful during the mitosis/meiosis lectures.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Attend every class and ask any questions that you might need clarification on something in the class.

    Course highlights:

Be in class every class. I learned a lot of Mendelian genetics that I had not learned in previous biology courses.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure to complete the mastering assignments and attend any review session that the professor ask so that you can get clarification if needed and other classmates attend them as well so you can talk with others to see what they say about a certain topic or how they achieve the answers or how they study.
