    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Overall the couse is very interesting and the professor is very fun, However it is a very tough course being a 200 level couse and freshman are taking it. the Information requires a lot of thought. There isn't a large amount of straight up memorization required but you must be able to apply what you have learned on the exams. This is a required course for biology majors at butler and I wouldn't recumbent anyone who doesn't have to take it to take it. It is aa very tough corse and is not meant for fulfilling your natural world requirement. However if you like a challenge i would highly recommend it. Good luck!

    Course highlights:

I feel like I have a greater understanding of how DNA is made and the process involved with how DNA is transcribed, translated and replicated And the processes involved with the various steps.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

STUDY STUDY STUDY!!! This course is not easy but if you work hard and study you will pass and get good grades. Study groups help a lot in this course.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this course because the material is interesting and involves many real world situations. The course involves topics like Mendelian Genetics, the human genome, GMOs, the epigenome and gene expression. We used probability when looking at the likelihood of inheriting certain traits. The use of probability combined with different modes of inheritance allowed me to develop analytical skills. There was also a lab portion in which we studied fruit fly genetics and whether there was a linkage between certain genes in the fly's genome. A lab portion I enjoyed greatly was when we studied a gene known as the TAS2R38 which influences whether people can taste PTC bitterness or not. Overall, this course taught me much about the basics of Genetics and it has sparked an interest for Genetics.

    Course highlights:

I learned about Mendelian Genetics and the different modes of inheritance. I strengthened my understanding of how pedigrees work and came to enjoy these types of problems because I saw these types of problems as puzzles. The second part of the semester was quite detail oriented. The "big picture" was the central dogma which describes the flow of genetic information from DNA to RNA to protein. The processes of transcription and translation involved much detail but in order to retain all of the information for the exam, I would rewrite my notes and go over them before the exam. I also made sure to ask for help if I wasn't understanding something.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I would keep in touch with your professor. Whenever you are struggling to understand something, make sure to ask for help as soon as possible in order to avoid a build up of questions. I would make sure to review your notes the same day you took them because this allows you to retain information. Remember that you have classmates with you so make friends and help each other out by studying together. The one thing I learned my first year of college is that it isn't a one person journey, but rather a team effort. The college experience is enhanced by working with others and helping each other meet goals.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is a good course for someone going into the medical field. Definitely challenging but overall worth it! Be prepared to work

    Course highlights:

The powerpoints are extremely beneficial and really help with making you understand the material. We go real in depth with how genetics works and mitosis and meiosis.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you look in the textbook. You are gonna have to learn some of the material on your own so please don't be lazy when it comes to your work and effort.
