    This course focused on how to apply the material to practical situations.”

    Course highlights:

    Fundamentals of power systems: single phase and three phase transmission, complex power, load characteristics, per unit system. Constants of transmission lines: resistance, inductance and capacitance of single and three phase lines. Performance of transmission lines: short, medium and long lines. High voltage, direct current transmission: rectification, three-phase bridge rectifier such as Graetz circuit and inversion. Kinds of direct current links: ground return, circuit breaking; advantages and disadvantages.

    9-11 hours

    Choppers and inverters: analysis and design. Various types of inverters: resonant, pulse width modulation types. Harmonic contents of input and output. Computer simulation of power converter system. Protection circuits. Uninterruptable power supplies. Use of feedback to design machine/electronic systems with prescribed characteristics. Scope for microprocessor control of power electronic equipment.
