Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

From medical studies to research experiments, from satellites continuously orbiting the globe to ubiquitous social network sites like Facebook or MySpace, from polling organizations to United Nations observers, data are being collected everywhere and all the time. Knowledge in statistics provides you with the necessary tools and conceptual foundations in quantitative reasoning to extract information intelligently from this sea of data.

    Course highlights:

With an undergraduate degree in Statistics,it made me a more attractive candidate for jobs that require understanding of statistical information. For example, in an industrial setting, i readily understood information based on statistical quality control, even though i probably don't have a course in it. In a management or sales position in an insurance company, am able to understand actuarial data, even though am not an actuary. In a marketing or market research setting, lots of the data come from sample surveys and are subjected to standard statistical analyses. Am able to understand and use these data, even though i may not be crunching the numbers myself.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Studying statistics at university is challenging, requiring mastery of complex skills and advanced data collection and analysis methods. Yet the basic principles underlying the subject are actually fairly simple: collect data, organize it, analyze it, and deliver an interpretation. The resulting information is used to influence major decisions in a wide range of sectors, from politics to pharmaceuticals, and from advertising to insurance.
