Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course helps you to redefine your writing skills.

    Course highlights:

Having taken all AP English courses in high school, I thought this course would be a breeze. However, when I got back my first 87 on an essay I was shocked. This course helped to redesign theses and organize my essays.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course was crucial in my decision on my major. In high school I was never taught properly how to evaluate and form an opinion on a text or how to properly structure a paper. My lack of knowledge in these areas caused me to get low B's and C's on everything I wrote. It was not until I took this course that I learned with a little bit of knowledge, I could write well. I began to receive A's and high B's on everything I wrote, which only boosted my confidence and interest more. I developed a love of reading and writing and went on to drop my corporate communications major and declare myself as an English major. My dream job is to teach middle and high school English so that I am able to possibly instill this same passion and knowledge in the next generation to come.

    Course highlights:

I remember on the first day of class we were told to write a story about an achievement we had made before college. While this story was not graded, we were still provided feedback on our writing abilities. I was handed back a piece of paper next class with a great deal of red pen marks (not very surprising to me). While in that moment I immediately dreaded the course, I quickly learned I was wrong. A highlight of this course was the time and attention every student was individually given, We were never given a strict time limit on interpreting and forming an opinion on an article. We were met with, individually, on every paper we wrote; and believe me, there were a lot. If we were really struggling with a paper we were given a reasonable extension. This course was entirely about learning and thorough understanding so that we were able to move on in our college careers knowing how to be successful in them.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

My advice would be that you need to be willing to learn. You must realize that this course will be crucial in continuing your education, as well as your career. English is the basis of every job and major. Without English and a basic knowledge of the written word we would not be able to effectively communicate. Communication is the key to your success and this course definitely helps prepare you for that.
