Thorough analysis of the very heart of the business world can be a convoluted experience if not fully invested. My professor allowed us to be ourselves and learn at our personal speeds, allowing us to understand the reasoning behind the principles of accounting, and seeing to it that we all walked away with the benefits of lifelong knowledge.
The accounting formula (equity=assets-liabilities), in its basic form, was an integral step in preparing for Accounting II and other forms of accounting. Also, when you keep in mind that if something is put somewhere, it was taken from somewhere else, you will never misplace the logic of keeping the books balanced. When there is an effect, something has caused it 100 percent of the time.

Be prepared to work and think. Never be afraid to ask questions and allow yourself to be a humble sponge. Help your classmates, always review right before class to keep your mind fresh, and it never hurts to read ahead.
