Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

In my two semesters at WVU, I learned the most in this course by far. Sydha Salihu was a phenomenal professor who was able to explain biology in a way no teacher has ever done for me. I actually grasped the content and understood why things happened and how. Instead of just trying to remember the information taught to me, I actually absorbed it and understood what was happening. In high school I was god awful at science especially biology and I passed this class with an A. The course was very informational and just helped in giving me a good foundation to learn more about biology once it got more difficult. The information learned in this course was actually applicable to life situations and we were always given examples of how to apply into our lives. I highly recommend taking this course with this professor in particular if you need to take a science class for your major or if you're just interested in biology in general.

    Course highlights:

This course was an intro to biology, so you really just learn the basics of biology and build yourself a good foundation for harder content in the future. The highlights in this course for me would definitely be the more visual aspect of learning. Some students need visual aids to be able to grasp information easily and this course really catered to that need. There were many handouts with diagrams and visual worksheets to fill out by the students. Also during class professor Salihu did draw a lot of diagrams between notes to break up the words with nice visuals that helped me tremendously.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

In this course, studying a little every night after class just really helps you retain the information better. And I would totally recommend bringing a notebook and laptop to class because like I stated earlier Professor Salihu does draw a lot of diagrams during class, so they are nice to draw along to and study later. And I would bring a laptop as well because she puts the lecture slides online so if she moves too fast in class you can have you're laptop out with the same slides on the board and you can follow along at your own pace. Also she holds study sessions before the final and every exam I would highly recommend considering going to these because she'll answer any questions you have and its a more intimate learning experience versus you're 100+ lecture.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend because the professor is great and as long as you do the readings from the book, pay attention in class, and take notes on the things that she says that she doesn't write down as well as what she does the class is easy.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about the human body systems and found them very interesting. Salihu was very excited about teaching which made the class that much better. The beginning of the course is all about plants and organisms which I found challenging differentiate the different types but Salihu is very helpful.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure to do the pre readings from the book! She grades participation points with accuracy. Almost all of the clicker questions are from the reading or previous slide. Her study guides are very useful but when study, do the study guides but also flip through your notes because she has questions that are about specific slides.
