    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

NUR300 focuses on the baccalaureate-prepared nurse’s role(s) in professional practice and the alignment of nursing theories with practice and research. The course surveys important changes that have occurred in the nursing profession over the years, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. The course will cover quality and safety education for nurses (QSEN), the nursing scope of practice as defined by the American Nurses Association (ANA), the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM’s) core competencies in collaborative care, nursing ethics, education, health promotion, and disease prevention as they relate to professional nursing roles. Students will apply critical thinking, evidence-based practice (EBP), and continuous quality improvement (CQI) to professional nursing practice. This course includes 20 hours of practice experience activities.

    Course highlights:

This course is designed to allow students to understand the foundation for professional nursing practice at the baccalaureate level. Students will learn how to evaluate the role of professional nurses through weekly discussions, applicable field interviews, and research. Students will analyze professional nursing practice through an evidence-based approach; this will allow students to have a solid understanding of professional nurses’ unique roles as healthcare frontrunners

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

During each of five weeks of the course, students will instruct and learn from their peers in discussion forums that are dialogic, collaborative, sometimes subject to dispute, and representative of situations that may be encountered in the workplace. Additionally students will complete a final, summative assignment due at the end of Week Five in which they apply nursing scholarship and practices covered in the course and documented by professional organizations to a problem identified by each student in Week 1. The summative assignment will be directly supported by written assignments in Weeks One and Two. These are constitutive of the final assignment as well as indirectly supported by written assignments in Weeks Three and Four, which research and apply educational resources and apply key nursing concepts to a case study
