    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This man is very intelligent and, on the plus side, assumes that all his students are or aren't. No in between. For someone who is intelligent this is very gratifying but he also tends to assume you already know a great deal about this course. It is not introductory it's a refresher. Even if you have had AP Chem and such through high school his attitude towards the class is difficult to wake up at bright and early morning Monday for. His tests include obscure information that is never included in the study guide.

    Course highlights:

I learned more through the lab attached to the course but you do gain rudimentary chemistry and overall science skills through this course. Some of the more interesting bits included theoretical application, interdisciplinary work, and history of development.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely would recommend prior knowledge. If you don't have any or don't have enough (if you didn't take an AP Chemistry course or college course) you'll have to struggle through it.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course to students who are confident in their ability to apply chemistry to a variety of situations. If you have a passion for chemistry, Cairns is the professor for you. He expects you to understand the basics prior to the class and encourages students to use their knowledge as opposed to him just telling you the answer. I would not recommend this course if you do not enjoy chemistry or science in general.

    Course highlights:

STUDY. Do not think that understanding the material and being able to do the online homework is enough. This course takes practice. The tests are not based on recalling facts or being able to elaborate on theories. You need to be able to apply the information learned to other topics. Also, everything you go over in class may be on the test in some format, so STUDY.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Use all of the materials you are given when it comes to studying. Your book, online homework, practice problems, class notes, and the professor himself are all places you can start your studying. Be sure to utilize the professors office hours to your advantage. Be aware what times he will be there and make sure you have specific questions.
