This class was tough.
Course Overview:
The class was very challenging and involved a lot of course work. This is a fluid mechanics class dealing with fluid mechanics transport, diffusion characteristics and modeling. The class involves both in class work, lab work and homework. This course is required for Mechanical Engineers. I really enjoyed the class and the exposure to new software programs. Experimental Fluid Dynamics process was used in the lab to develop relations to fluid motion and dimensional analysis.
Course highlights:
The class involved Experimental Fluid Dynamics that was then used to compare Computer aided Fluid Dynamics for comparison of testing boat designs, airfoil designs, and fluid viscosity. A third comparison was made with Analytical Fluid mechanics. These three areas involved large amounts of mathematics, computer aided design work, and various software used for both recording data and evaluating that data so it can be presented in a meaningful way. There were 2 EFD labs, and 4 CFD labs. Each lab report was near 12 pages and required the use of excel, ANSYS, Word processing to complete.
Hours per week:
12+ hours
Advice for students:
Be prepared to put in the hours. There were lots of TA's to help with problems and they are a great asset for doing well in the course.
