an economy where wealth is created through the effective management of knowledge workers instead of by the efficient control of physical and financial assets
Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Business Strategy is a required course for all business majors at Pittsburg State University. Taking this class with Professor Poe was by far one of the best decisions I made will studying at PSU. Not only does he do a wonderful job at giving the information from the textbook in a non traditional way but he incorporates real life situations into every topic to show how it relates to the business world. He structures his class around a group project that models the T.V. show Shark Tank. This was a great way for students to learn and apply the course objectives while also enjoying learning. Professor Poe has a way of taking any students answer, weather it was right or wrong and turning it into the correct answer. He will never make a student feel like they are wrong or that their opinion doesn’t matter. Overall this class was one of my favorite that PSU offers.
While taking this class I learned how to define and describe the strategic management process, how to apply knowledge and skills I gained from other courses into making business decisions, and how to analyze business problems and develop recommendations to management. I also learned how to sustain a competitive advantage through understanding the relationship between a firm and its environment. Overall this course provided me with the foundations of a successful general manager and the roles of functional areas reporting to the general manager.

Advice for students:
The best advice I would give to students who are considering this course is go for it and take it with Professor Poe if possible. Apply yourself in and out of the classroom and you will achieve great results. Go to class and actively participate and you will not only gain the grade you deserve but the knowledge you pay for as well.
