    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

I absolutely loved the course! Not only was Dr. Schoop engaging and made the course topics relevant to our lives but he connected our class with a great non-profit in New Orleans called Grow Dat Youth Farms.

    Course highlights:

The highlights included the interactions we had with non-profit Grow Dat Youth Farms. They came into class and led discussions on cross-cultural dialogue and the work that they are doing with opportunity youth. We also got to spend time on the farm meeting their leaders and developing meaningful relationships.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you need to take your first-tier of service learning this is a great way. I know that the SL component changes from semester to semester but Josh is a great professor always worth taking.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

The Intro to Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship class is an incredible course! It is an introductory overview to the field of social innovation and social entrepreneurship. In the course, students learn definitions, key concepts, and ways to apply their passions to the field. Additionally, a section of the course is devoted to looking at case studies to understand the field and organizations classified as "social ventures" better. This course also has a 20 hour service learning component and students get to choose where to volunteer (unlike in other service learning courses where you are assigned a community partner). Joshua Schoop is a great professor and resource who has even written job/internship recommendations for me after I took the class.

    Course highlights:

Case studies, basics of the social venture business models (for profit social ventures, non profits, hybrid models), 20-hour service learning

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Whether you want to be a SISE minor or not, a business student or not….. take this course! SISE is super interdisciplinary and the knowledge you will gain in the class will benefit whatever field you're interested in.
