Hard and Soft Skills

What is the difference between hard and soft skills?

In the world of computing, we would classify a hard skill as a technical one.  These are identified in your computing coursework.  Some examples are

  • Programming language skills
  • Operating system administration know how
  • Troubleshooting both hardware and software issues

Although they may be presented more subtly, soft skills are also discussed in all your computing courses.  Such skills are

  • Written and verbal communication
  • Active listening
  • Relating
  • Emotional intelligence

Soft skills are often more difficult to learn because they require us to identify them in ourselves and change in order to grow.  See the article below.
