Microscopic finger-like projections are found on the surface of the cells that line the lumen of the small intestine.


They are shorter protrusions of the plasma membrane that increase the surface area of the cell. This enables the cell to increase the absorption of nutrients. They are usually found on the apical surface of some epithelial cells.
