Set Up and Use a Virtual Machine

In the "Installing Windows" chapter, you installed VirtualBox and used it to create a VM and install Windows 8. Install VirtualBox on a second computer and move the VM you created earlier to this second computer. What files did you have to move? How did you configure VirtualBox on the second computer to find and use the VM?

Explanation

Explanation -

1st way to move the VM to the 2nd computer is to use Import / Export functionality of the VirtualBox. For doing this, we need to go to File -> Export Appliance in your first computer. Then, select the virtual machine containing the Windows 8. Next, is to browse the location where the .ova file is to be stored. After browsing to the location, click next -> Export and a .ova file will be created at the directed location. Copy the .ova file to the second computer. In second computer, in VirtualBox, go to File -> Import Appliance. In the wizard, choose the virtual machine .ova file. Configure the system like RAM and disk space as per the virtual machine and click on Import.

The other method is to copy the entire folder which contains the virtual machine files i.e .vbox and .vdi files. In second computer, paste the copied folder. Now, install the VirtualBox and open it. In Machine menu, click on Add. Browse to the .vbox file of the copied virtual machine and click Open. VirtualBox will configure the VM as per the informaiton present in the .vbox file. This method is more reliable and faster than the Import Export functionality of the VirtualBox.
