What is a virtual community?

A virtual community is a social network of people who connect through social media platforms, these people have mutual interests and needs.  People are allowed to join these virtual communities as long as they share the same goal and are willing to adhere to the setup rules and regulations. An example of a virtual community is a group of peanut butter lovers, it can be a community of a specific programming language such Ruby_World or even the a community of football lovers of a team such as Chelsea_Community.
