The Credit Department clerk receives an application from a new customer. He reviews
application and approves it. Using his laptop to connect to the computer system, the clerk accesses the Customer master file (a disk file) to ensure that there is no record of the customer. After receiving a message on his screen that the customer does not exist, he enters the new customer data into his laptop and creates a new record on the Customer master file. After receiving a message on his screen that the data have been recorded, the clerk files the customer application in a paper file that is maintained in alphabetical order.
