‘The Grange’ is a 50 room hotel based in the heart of the English countryside.
‘The Grange’ organisation is structured around 4 functional departments – Sales / Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations.
The senior management team (consisting of the department managers plus the Managing Director) is considering expansion of the facilities to include gymnasium and swimming pool facilities. They have established that the appropriate level of funding is available for the project and have an area of the site adjacent to the existing hotel buildings in mind for the location of the new facilities.

As a consultant to the management team you are required to undertake an analysis of the information requirements of this project to enable the management team to make their decision regarding the viability of the expansion plans.

Task 1 – Information and knowledge needs
1a) Identify the types and sources of data and information required to enable the management team to make the decision. Your analysis should include justifications as to why you think the data / information will be required and you should be specific regarding the nature of the data to be gathered.

1b) Outline the methods of data / info gathering that you suggest are used in order to gather the data / info identified in part 1a) of this question.

1c) Briefly explain the key criteria for effective use of data and its importance.

Task 2 – Networking and communications processes

2a) Construct a communications plan to identify what information re. this project needs to be communicated to whom, when and how etc.

2b) Recommend appropriate methods of dissemination of the information gathered to the following ‘The Grange’ personnel:

- The Management Team
- The operations staff

Task 3 - Appropriate system
3a) Produce an appropriate information system diagram to indicate the various flows of information within the ‘The Grange’ organisation.

3b) Provide a detailed description of 3 performance measures / reports that could be developed within the information system to enable the management team to measure the success of the expansion plan, if it is given the go ahead.
