Facebook is the pioneer of the social networking industry. An entire industry has sprouted up around the site seemingly overnight, as everyone from software wizards to marketing honchos rush to figure out how to make money from a user base that has ballooned to 41 million. The company is based on users preference therefore there management process must be flexible and have a system that embraces total quality management. Joiner (2007) states “firms that focus on continuous improvement, involve and motivate employees to achieve quality output and focus on satisfying customers' needs are more likely to outperform firms that do not have this focus. Thus, we can expect that to the extent an organization implements TQM practices, performance should be enhanced.” Facebook’s core functions successfully meets Sink’s factors for TQM which include “ the global economy; complex and dynamic technology; complex and dynamic resources; customer orientation and expectations; complex and dynamic task environment; and a shrinking feasible solution space for many critical problems, issues and opportunities”(Mohanty,1994). Facebook meets these needs by expanding into other countries, creating new applications, usage of mobile capabilities, user based innovation, and a highly intelligent workforce. Facebook’s unique usage of TQM has enabled the company to continue growth throughout the ever changing social networking industry.
