Summary of the Case Facts: Kimpton Hotels have marked a niche in pioneering as the hotels which preserve the natural sanctity of the nature. The decision of the Kimpton Hotels to follow eco-friendly procedures as part of their social responsibility is applauded. The “Earth care” program that was started in 1981 was a revolutionary program which has earned the reputation of eco-friendly hotels for the Kimpton. As part of the earth care programs the hotel uses all environmental friendly products like the ceramic cups and plates, towels, carpets and hangings all made of pure organic cottons. They promised social responsibility as their corporate strategy in the year 2005 across all the Kimpton hotels within the market. As part of their promise, they have started a recycling unit to recycle the plastics and the wastes. The non-biodegradable products like plastics have been discarded from their usage. Moreover, they have tremendously cut the usage of paper to save trees. The harmful and stringent synthetics used for cleaning bathrooms and furniture have been discarded. Moreover, they have reduced much of waste of construction by acquiring the replenishing the oldest buildings in America. It saves the additional cost and waste involved in the infrastructure. Moreover, using the old architectural buildings adds value to the business and using the eco-friendly substitutes for the entire infrastructure and material has made Kimpton Hotels a pioneer in Earth care program. The astonishing facts revealed by the statistics show the amount of waste done in the hotel industry. It was noted that hotel industry has huge wastes nearly 28 pounds per day which is nearly 2% of the total waste, but nearly 70-80% of the wastes is recyclable. And it is noted that it spends $3.7 billion per day on electricity and around 218 gallons of water are wasted per room. This facts show how the hotel industry causes tremendous pressure on environment. The adoption of environment friendly procedures would save the preserve the earth.
