Individual Reflective Essay (30% of Final Mark) This task will require students to provide a reflection and analysis of the negotiation exercise undertaken on Day 9 and 10 – the Final Negotiation. The reflective assignment should be no more than 1,250 words (+/- 10%). You are asked to provide an essay which responds to a number of questions (see below) based on your experience in the negotiation exercise. In writing your answer, you are asked to explicitly relate the experience to the key ideas and concepts covered in seminars and readings. Your answer should draw on materials covered throughout the two weeks. You will also support your responses with specific examples from the negotiation itself. Your reflective essay should address the following: 1. How successful were you in this negotiation? How do you know you were successful? 2. How did you claim value in this negotiation? What tactics did you use to advance your interests? 3. How did you create value in this negotiation? How did you maximize the joint gains? 4. How did your relationship with other parties change throughout the negotiation? How did you update your strategies and tactics as the negotiation progressed and new information came to light? 5. On what basis did you join or refuse to join a coalition? How did you strengthen it? How did you weaken it? 6. What cognitive biases did you observe in yourself and the other parties? How did they affect the negotiation and how did you manage these biases? 7. What emotions did you observe in yourself and the other parties? How did they affect the negotiation and how did you manage these emotions? 8. (optional) What ethical dilemmas did you face in the negotiation? How did you resolve them?
