I have a distillation column experinment where I need to separate a binary mixture of dicloromethane (DCM) and trichloroethylene (TCE). I have measured the refractive index of the DCM and then I plotted the values vs its mole fraction. I fitted the curve to a staight line and I got an equation where I need to solve it to get the composition of overhead and bottm products of the column. How can I get the composition of the two components? I have tried to solve the eqiation and then subtract the answer from 1 to get the composition of the second constitunt but it seems to be wrong. Any adivce?
