a) Calculate AU, q, and w of each step for an ideal gas in a Carnot-cycle. The paths are as

follows: V1PIT1-> V2P2 T2-> V3 P3 T3-> VAPAT4-> V1PIT1

1 2 and 3->4 are isothermal and 2->3 and 4-> 1 are adiabatic.

b) Compute the efficiency of this engine. Sum up the network created by going around the

entire cycle. Divide this by the heat adsorbed by the system at the high temperature

(T3 = T4). Use the equations of isothermal and adiabatic curves to dramatically simplify

your expression for the efficiency (Only have temperature values present in the final

formula).

c) Repeat part (a) that resemble a diesel engine. 1->2 and 3->4 are adiabatic, 273 is

isobaric, and 4-> 1 is isochoric.

d) Repeat (b) for the cycle described in part (c). The final formula of efficiency should only

contain Cv, Cp and temperature values.
