Magnesium oxide (MgO) is a ionic compound. Explain what is the main parameter affecting the crystal structure in binary (i.e. formed by only two chemical elements) ionic compounds. Crystal structure of MgO is the rock-salt crystal structure; draw the structure of MgO and calculate its theoretical density. Data of ionic radii and atomic weight are reported hereafter.
