2)Pick a W-section for the brace of the first floor to withstand Yielding ; Steel Fy=50 ksi; Fu=65 ;


Additional Loads: Dead=10 kips; Live=20 kips ; Wind= 30 kips


3) Design a reasonable connection (bolt only the WEB). Make sure it does not fail in fracture (No Stagger Bolts)


4) Check to see if member fails in block shear.


5) Check the Block Shear of a 1 inch Gusset Plate Fy=36. If the Gusset plate fails, redesign its thickness.
