With the development and expansion of the internet, social media has become one

of the most popular means of connecting and informing the general public of current events and data. With millions of users worldwide, social media allows people to connect and communicate over great distances in very little time. As a result, social media has also become an important means of sharing knowledge and experiences especially concerning the businesses and services that are being provided. As such, it has become more common for businesses to use social media as a means of marketing and improving outreach with customers from several different backgrounds.

Still, business must pay close attention to their methods and means of using social media. While it has the potential to increase business and help grow a company, it can just as easily tarnish a well-built brand. David Armano mentions that businesses must know that anything that can be said about a business over the internet will be, whether or not it's good or bad. It becomes the company's responsibility to keep up with gossip related to their business and properly engage in the matters as necessary. Additionally, business must consider that someone is always watching, and any mistakes or controversial actions done openly or publicly can also have a negative effect on the company's brand. This will include not only what the company does as a unit but also the individual actions of employees within the organization.

 Although the approach to the involvement of a business in social media is sensitive, the overall concept will have its benefits. Social media has recently become a major avenue for advertising due to the ease of use, low cost, and its ability to reach more people. Business should take advantage of the availability of social media and use it as a means to further expand the targeted customer and welcome in more customers. Social media could also allow a company to pay more attention to its inbound traffic and use SEO (or Search Engine Optimization) to improve the chances of the customer finding their product.

 Social media has the potential to provide many great benefits to a business as long as its features are being properly used and managed. Paying close attention to the businesses presence on social media could potentially affect its ability to either grow and continue expanding or ruin its reputation and the brand as a whole.
