Abstract

This paper gives a brief overview of the people sent to correctional facilities which include individuals who in various aspects may not be willing to comply with the rule of law. Within the correctional facilities, there exists either sentencing to imprisonment, to probation services, community services, and complete prison term services. The cases of recidivism are common within the prison services. Offenders are usually arrested by security personnel within the prison services who happen to be prison warders and ensure that correctional programs are given. Prison have diverse uses within the criminal justice system thus has the duty of ensuring the legal process is deemed applicable at any point. Prisoners are classified into various categories varying from hardened offenders to the less serious criminals within the society. The issue of the death penalty remains a controversial issue that would be addressed in the paper as it seeks to focus on due process and preservation of justice at all the stages of life.

Introduction

Prison design provides restrictions and relevant authority towards the movement of prisoners in the institution. They should monitor the movement of prisoners in and out of the prison premises. This movement should be restricted to prevent the prisoners from running away from prison as they would cause harm to the society and will also give police officers a hard time in trying to locate them again.Convicted offenders are punished under retribution or just desserts which focuses on restoring the balance of the general population other than the offender (Siegel & Bartollas, 2016). Punishment is carried out as a way of reshaping or reforming the whole society rather than an individual. This is because the individual who commits a crime is part of the society.By him committing the crime, he represents the criminal behaviors that have cropped up in the entire society.Prisons should thereby teach on morals, ethics, and values to all offenders as a way of preventing them from committing crimes in the future.

Chapter 1

Punishing the offender in one way or another reform the society. If the offender leaves prison, he/she will live an exemplary life that the whole society can embrace and that is the power of reformation. There are two perspectives that focus on the environment within the prison and outside the prison and the appropriate treatment of the prisoners. Prisoners to some extent, are treated differently when they are in prison and when they are now released back into the society. In prison, the inmates have to follow a day to day routine that aims at changing their behavior or even transforming them into better persons that the community would want them to be. It is very important to acknowledge the fact that, convicted offenders are humans and therefore have rights to be protected. Prisoners should be treated with respect and equality despite their actions and this gives them motivation. Our prison will have rehabilitation centers that teach on good behavior. Moreover, prison designs should ensure that punishment of offenders who are brought to trial and plead guilty for the crimes they have committed, is conducted accordingly. This is one of the ways in which offenders will learn from their mistakes and perhaps decide to change their behavior for good. In prison, the punishment of offenders is conducted in many different forms and depends much on the crime that the offender committed. Retribution is a legal punishment decided by authority or a person in the position of power guided by the law of the land to correct wrongdoing in the society through criminal acts (Siegel et al. 2016). Retribution should be used when necessary and under predetermined expectations to charge criminals and subjecting them to pain and suffering when found guilty (Siegel et al. 2016). Prisons established goals to find solutions to the complications that an individual does when committing a criminal or property crime.
