The similarities of the creation stories reflect the good wishes and blessing to survive on the earlier age

As the only intelligent known species on the planet, human have been working hard on tracing the truth of the origin of the mankind. About 100 years ago, Darwin proposed the evolution theory, and he pointed out that human might evolved from other species. Before the evolution theory, human's ideology was tied by the beliefs the gods' superpower and faith of the religions for long time. In the earlier human history, the creations stories had played an important role in human life. The mythological stories all around the world were the interpretation and description of nature and the universe in the form of fantasy, and they reflected the primitive concepts of the origins of the universe and the mankind, and they also reflect the human's traditions and the articulation of the earlier society's value and norm.  Among the creation stories, they may have a little bit difference on the contents, but they share the basic similar elements. In this essay, we are going to focus on three of the famous creation stories around the world from different continents to see the deeper meaning of the stories. They are "Popol Vuh" from the Mayan cultures in South America, "The Genesis" from the Christian in Mid Asia, and the Ovid's creation stories in European. They share the similar elements such as there were chaos in the beginning of the world, the superpower God or gods created the world by separating the land from the water and creating the living creatures on the planet, and then the God or gods created humans to worship them. From the similarities of the stories, we could peek on our earlier ancestors' society and daily activities. The sacred stories do not only tell the stories, but they entitle the hopes and spirits of the mankind that who want to survive and live. Our ancestors worshipped powers from the gods, and they wished they could take advantage and benefits from the gods' superpower to live and survive from the earlier age. 

 

All the creation stories are attractive to the readers, the stories progress begin introducing the origin of the universe and the difficulty of the living environment, and then introducing the God or gods images which the people urged the image of a superpower God to save the people, and then lead the reader to believe and worship the superpower God or gods. All the creation stories begin their stories with the description of the origin universe. Due to the low productivities and the scarce life experiences, people made up the creation's stories with their imagination and speculation. From the Ovid's, Mayan people and the Christians all shared the basic element. In the beginning of the universe, there were darkness and chaos, the unseparated heaven and earth, the unseparated water and the land. "Chaos was its name." (Ovid, 1030), "there is nothing whatever gathered together." (Popol Vuh, 518), "the earth then was welter and waste and darkness over the deep." (Genesis, 152). All of lines from the three different stories reflects the facts that our ancestors assumed the origins of the universe was mess, darkness, and it was unable to live. On the other hand, we can reflect that our ancestors were living in an extremely difficult environment, and they barely survived. The urge of a superpower images was strongly needed to support their hope of surviving in this difficult environment, so the god or gods were appeared on the society of our ancestors. In their imagination, their God or gods were prefect mentally and physically.  "They are great knowers, great thinkers in their very being." (Popol Vuh, 518). They are powerful. 

 

After introducing the God or the Gods' image, all the stories start to describe super big power of the God or gods on how they created the suitable living environment (the world). First, they separated the sky and earth, they divided water and the land, and putting in the light.  "God said, "let there be light." And there was light." "Let there be a vault in the midst of the water, let it divide water from water." And God made vault above water is heavens, under heaven he separated the land and sea and so on. (Genesis, 152) On Popal Vuh, "Let it be this way, think about it: this water should be removed, emptied out for the formation of the earth's own plate and platform, then should come the sowing, the dawning of the sky-earth......" (Popol Vuh, 518) Ovid describes that "each in its place and all in harmony,"  "separating earth from the heaven, and fluid aether from the denser air....."  (Ovid, 1031) From the straightforward and simply description, we could feel the superpower of the God and gods to control all the elements of world. Not only the space of living was created by the God or the gods, but also the food, living resources, and the animals were created at this time.  "Let the earth bring forth living creatures of each kind, cattle and crawling things, the wild beasts of each kind." (Genesis, 152) "When they conceived the growth, the generation of tress, of bushes and the growth of life." (Popol Vuh, 518) "So that every region of the world, should have its own distinctive forms of life." (Ovid, 1032) The God or gods created a world where the land is stable, food and other living resources are rich, and living environment suitable for human life.  Above description shows the ultra-power of the God or the gods. Or from other words, we can understand this way: everything on the planet were created by the God or the gods, so the God or gods have over all power to take control of all the elements on the earth. 

 

The straightforward description about the power of the God or gods leads the theme of the all the creation stories: the relationship between the God or the gods and the human beings. The purpose of the God or gods created human is to worship them. Since the stories were created by the mankind, so there would be some special power and descriptions to show the superior elements that human being had compared to other species which created by the god or gods. "An animal more like the god than these, more intellectually capable, and able to control the other beasts. Had not as yet appeared: now man was born." (Ovid, 1032) "and the growth of life, of humankind in the blackness in the early dawn." "There were four men were made from the white corn to worship the god." (Video Popol Vuh) "And the God said, "let us make a human to hold sway the fish of the sea and the fowl of the heavens and the cattle and the wild beasts and all the crawling things." (Genesis, 152) Not only just the superior of other creatures on the planet, human being also the God or gods favor creature. "And God created the human in his image." (Genesis, 152) and "Created man out of his own divine." (Ovid, 518) Those elements show that the God or gods choose human being to rule the other creatures on the earth, because human were designed to control other creatures. We are not sure it is true or not, but these words surely reflect the hope of our ancestors to take over the wild and nature.  This reflects the hope and wish of our ancestors to take advantage of the god or gods' superpower to benefit them to survive on the planet since human are the favor creatures created by God or gods. To worship the God or gods to ensure the faith and respect from the mankind to God or gods allowing the mankind to have the power from the God or gods to survive in the difficulty earlier age. 

 

In conclusion, even the stories of creations from different religions will have different elements, they all share similar basic elements on how the world were created, who created, and the favorable and specialties creations of the humankind from the Gods. All these elements show that the hopes and wishes that the human could take the advantage of the god or gods' power to live and survive from the difficult living environments.
