Immigration has always been important in the diffusion of culture, impacting both the new arrivals and their adopted homeland. Nations and governments have varied greatly in their receptiveness to immigration. Large-scale immigration was essential to the growth of the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Israel, for example, but has not been welcomed by Japan.
B. immigration is a ubiquitous phenomenon in human history. People have always moved from one country to another -whether seeking commerce opportunities, sold as slaves, fleeing one's native country or being forced into exile due to religious beliefs. However, during the last decades, new tendencies have been emerging in global immigration processes, mostly due to many factors related to modern civilization. One of these factors is the technical progress that has tremendously increased the flow of information and has eased the movement of people between countries. Another factor is the progress in human rights and democracy in most countries in the world and the growing efforts to implement these rights on an international level.
c. immigrants and their descendants are growing populations that are rapidly changing the racial/ethnic fabric of many societies across the globe. The growing number of immigrants means that the non-immigrant citizens of the host countries have more frequent and intensive contacts with immigrants. This makes their lives culturally rich.
