PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Mass right forearm

POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Mass right forearm probably fat necrosis secondary to trauma.

NAME OF OPERATION: Excisional biopsy.

ANESTHESIA: Local block with 0.5% marcaine

PROCEDURE: The patient was prepped and draped in the supine position after the induction of adequate anesthesia .The arm was held elevated and a tourniquet which was placed high on the arm was elevated to 250 mmHg. Attention was directed to the volar ulnar forearm where an incision approximately 1 inch long was made and carried into the subcutaneous tissues by sharp dissection with a knife scissors spreading revealed. A mass which appeared to be fat was adherent in a ball. This was removed in toto and the area was explored and no further abnormalities were noted. The mass was sent to pathology, the wound was copiously irrigated with dilute betadine solution. The skin was then closed in plastic fashion using 4-0 prolene interrupted vertical matress sutures. The wound was then washed with diluted betadine solution and dressed with betadine ointment and sterile bulky dressing. The procedure was then terminated.
