    Objectives in the affective domain are arranged in a logical hierarchical sequence. They are the following:  

    1.         Receiving: 

    Receiving is to be aware of values and learning and to receive information about values, beliefs or feelings.  

    2.         Responding: 

    At this level, the learner not only receives the information but responds to it.  

    3.         Valuing: 

    The values, beliefs, feelings become internalized and become a part of the learner. The student is challenged to investigate the new and the old values. 

    4.         Organization: 

    Skills are developed in organizing value systems in order for the learner to be able to resolve conflicts with previously held values. The student must now make a commitment to the new values. It is at this level that the learner develops further rationale for the new value system.  

    5.         Characterization:  

    There is now internal and external consistency of the values because the new values are integrated into the person and become a part of his/her desired persona and chosen lifestyle.

    • An example of Affective behavioral objectives developed in the sequence given above are as follows:  

    TERMINAL OBJECTIVE: 

    • The learner will exhibit behaviors that indicate concern for the development of a
    • mental health clinic in the community.  

    RECEIVING:  

    • 1.        The learner will list the mental health agencies in the community. 
    • 2.        The learner will make an oral report to class regarding the agencies in the community. 

    RESPONDING 

    • 1.        The learner will be able to give a report about the types of mental health
    • clinics advocated by community resources.  

    VALUING 

    • 1.        The learner will present a plan for a model mental health clinic. 
    • 2.        The learner will participate in a debate on the need for a mental health clinic. 

    ORGANIZATION 

    • 1.        The learner will plan a meeting with others to support and encourage the clinic's development 
    • 2.        The learner will present findings to the community leaders.
