from book <<Anna Karenina>> and <<Out of the Silent Planet (Space Trilogy #1)>>

answer the first question. Answer three total.

1.     In Anna Karenina, Tolstoy contrasts happy and unhappy families. Does your reading of Paradise Lost and The Space Trilogy confirm or disprove Tolstoy's thesis?

2.     In Out of the Silent Planet, Ransom is often trying to discover who or what species is ruling over the other species. He finds that there are few (really no) problems with authority in this unfallen world. In our fallen world, however, problems with authority abound. Where do you see problems with authority?

3.     Compare and contrast the temptation of Eve in Paradise Lost with the temptation of the Green Lady in Perelandra and the temptation and fall of Anna in Anna Karenina with an eye toward answering this question: "Why is one of these women able to withstand temptation and why do the other two fall?"

4.     Tolstoy's preamble to Anna Karenina states: "Vengeance is mine; I will repay." Where do we see the most devastating effects of vengeance in the books listed in the grammar section of this test? (You must pick at least three examples and one of the examples has to be Anna Karenina.)

5.     Imagine that the House of Representatives decides to impeach Donald Trump. They are claiming that he worked with the Russians to win the 2016 election, although the Mueller Report cleared him of this charge. Four characters are called forward to give testimony for or against Donald Trump. Two of these witnesses are Russian: Constantine Levin and Anna Karenina; two of them are not from this world Satan (the character in Milton's Paradise Lost) and Merlin from That Hideous Strength. Which side would each of these characters take and what would they say? Based on this imaginary interchange, which side would win? (Your answer needs to explain why each character would take the side that they take and why they would say what you have chosen for them to say.)
