For this week's discussion, we will focus on our compare/contrast essay. In your initial post, please explain your compare/contrast topic, why you've chosen to write about it and a few ideas that might come up in the essay.

This part of the assignment should be about 100 words.

This week, you have a reading assignment in Wyrick’s Steps to Writing Well , and five
presentations: Expository Writing, Compare/Contrast Essay, Point-by-Point vs. Block-
Style, The Formal Outline and Grammar Girl: Ten Tips for Banishing Typos.
You have two assignments due this week, which include a discussion assignment that asks you to
share your Assignment compare/contrast topic with the class and the essay itself, which is a 3 to
4-page paper that compares and contrasts the qualities of two things, events, experiences – or
whatever you choose to write about.
Be sure to read your classmates’ responses to your topic choice and remember that we don’t
want to use research for the paper – this should be something that you can compare and contrast
from your own experience.

For this week's hands-on assignment, you will construct your own compare and contrast essay,
using either the point-by-point or block-style method of essay organization.
For this essay, you should not be doing research and you should compare two things with which
you are familiar. However, for this essay, you should write from the third-person point of view.
You can choose to be subjective or objective.
This assignment should be roughly 3 to 4 double-spaced pages long, and include an APA-
formatted title page. The title page does not count toward page count.
Remember to proofread and spell check your work.
