Need to create an outline on the short story “A&P” by John Updike. Later I will have to do a compare contrast essay but now I just need to work on an outline. I have attached an example that I created labeled week 2 outline.

Trust as a Theme in Toni Cade Bambara’s “Gorilla, My Love”
Introductory Paragraph:
In Toni Cade Bambara’s “Gorilla, My Love” the story introduces Hazel Vale, a
young girl who feels adults never tell the truth. The story begins when Hazel Fnds out that her Uncle
Hunca Bubba is ge±ng married and is changing his name back to his original given name, Je²erson
Winston Vale. When Uncle Hunca Bubba begins talking about his new love, Hazel’s heart breaks because
she realizes the vow of him promising to marry her was just a lie and the picture he’s holding up of his wife to be has Hazel reminiscing on a series of events that
conFrm, adults can never be trusted.
Thesis statement: In the story
Gorilla, My Love, Hazel’s interpreta³on of trust is transformed by life
altering experiences she’s dealt with in her life.

Hazel Vale was raised in a loving family who put a high value on educa³on and keeping one’s word.

for lyin out there sayin Gorilla, My Love playin.
Suppor³ng points: And now I’m really furious cause I get so ³red grownups messin over kids cause they
li´le and can’t take em to court.

The story then turns to the Fnal straw that destroys whatever interpreta³on Hazel has when dealing
with trust and adults.
Suppor³ng points: Well. You remember how you told me I was the cutest thing that ever walked the
earth?”
Suppor³ng points: “Well, for cryin out loud, Hazel, you just a li´le girl. And I was just teasin.”
Suppor³ng points: “You a lyin dawg,” I say, when I meant to say treacherous dog, but just couldn’t get
hold of the word.
