"I do not feel that divesting an acquisition is a failure at all and may be a sound business move. Many companies have divested to focus on doing what they do best and in the case of something like Google, they have bought Motorola. While this is a great move in the sense that they now control all of Motorola's patents, Google is a software company not a hardware company and they may eventually want to sell Motorola. Even if they sell for the same amount they purchased for they will still come out way ahead because of the patents. It would not be a failure for them to sell, but actually a pretty smart move. "
