The human and chimpanzee genomes are 96% identical at the DNA level.
1. How many individual bases of the human genome differ from the corresponding positions of the chimp genome?
2. Assume that the human genome is 3% coding and contains about 20,000 genes, and that all of the sequence differences are independent, single-base changes (snps) distributed randomly throughout the genome. Estimate the fraction of genes mutated between humans and chimpanzees.
