Case Study #3: Hypertension (HTN)
Vicki is a 42-year-old African American woman who was diagnosed with Hypertension a
month ago. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for the past 20 years. She
is self-employed and runs a successful insurance agency. Her work requires frequent travel
and Vicki often has to eat at fast food restaurants for most of her meals.
Requirements
Write a 7-8 page paper (including separate title and reference pages).
• Describe the diagnostic testing that is usually performed in order to formally diagnose the
particular disease or condition you are describing.
• Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatments that may also benefit the
patient.
• Identify the appropriate treatment is/her particular diagnosis.
• Describe typical prognosis for the disease.
• Identify patient teaching that would benefit the patient in your case study.
• Discuss potential barriers to therapy that the patient may experience due to his/her unique
situation.
