Assignment:

Student will write an 8 - 10 page paper

(not including title page and reference page/s) on one of the significant health care issues facing American hospitals today. The paper will outline and define the healthcare issue and provide compelling rationale for governance and managerial attention. Students need to discuss strategies and time frames to address the problem so the institution can effectively deal with the issue in a cost effective and timely manner.

  • NOTE: Research paper must be ORIGINAL work by the student for HCA413 and not a paper that has been submitted to another class. TurnItIn will be used to assess originality of student’s work. Student may lose points on research paper if originality is in question.

  • NOTE: If student has written a paper for another class and wants to use some of the information in this paper, he/she must cite that paper as though citing any other author. Points will be deducted if another paper written by a student is excessively referenced in the paper for this course (more than one or two paragraphs). If in doubt about this requirement – contact the instructor prior to submitting the paper.


Be very sure you have reviewed the requirements in the syllabus. I did not list a minimum number of references, but for an 8 - 10 page paper, at least 4 would be expected. Be sure you have reviewed the Tips for Writing Papers PowerPoint - especially slide # 8  - so your reference titles are in correct APA format.

VARYING DEFINITIONS OF ONLINE COMMUNICATION 2 Abstract This paper explores four published articles that report on results from research conducted on online (Internet) and offline (non-Internet) relationships and their relationship to computer-mediated communication (CMC). The articles, however, vary in their definitions and uses of CMC. Butler and Kraut (2002) suggest that face-to-face (FtF) interactions are more effective than CMC, defined and used as “email,” in creating feelings of closeness or intimacy. Other articles define CMC differently and, therefore, offer different results. This paper examines Cummings, Butler, and Kraut’s (2002) research in relation to three other research articles to suggest that all forms of CMC should be studied in order to fully understand how CMC influences online and offline relationships. Keywords: computer-mediated communication, face-to-face communication The abstract should be between 150-250 words. Abbre- viations and acronyms used in the paper should be defined in the abstract. The abstract is a brief summary of the paper, allowing readers to quickly review the main points and purpose of the paper. The word “Abstract” should be centered and typed in 12 point Times New Roman. Do not indent the first line of the abstract paragraph. All other paragraphs in the paper should be indented.
