Rock & Roll is now at least 60 years old, possibly much older. As we have discussed during this
course, its basic form, structure and content have always been limited in their capacity for development, leading many artists back to recreate past sounds and styles from time to time. To what extent, then, do you agree with Jagger's claim that Rock & Roll has no future, that it is doomed simply to repeat - even if in different form - the music that has gone before. Conversely, considering the surprising longevity of such styles as Rap, Heavy Metal and Punk, what good reasons are there to believe that Rock & Roll - however you choose to define it - will continue to be a vibrant sound in the 21st century?
