King Leopold's Ghost is a history that deals with Belgium's colonial project in the Congo in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Despite this specific historical setting, Adam Hochschild wants us to draw general conclusions about the nature of colonialism itself (whether it be British, French, Spanish, German, etc...). What are the lessons he draws? How do these lessons compare/contrast to those articulated by Linda Colley and Charles Mann? How persuasive is Hochshild in relation to these other authors?

1. Have you included a position statement that clearly articulates the lessons Hochschild draws about colonialism and how you view him in relationship to Colley and Mann? 

2. In arriving at that position statement, have you provided at least three examples where Hochshild speaks of the general nature of colonialism (it would be particularly helpful to include at least 1 example where he speaks of a colonial power other than Belgium)?

3. Have you considered the lessons drawn in King Leopold's Ghost to those drawn in 1491 and The Ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh?

4. Is the paper clearly written and well-organized so that your position is comprehensible and supported by your discussion of the points of comparison/contrast as well as how persuasive you find each author.
