At the top of your paper- tell me what career path you hope to take in life and what type of company you would

like to work for (small, medium, large?). Perhaps you want to start your own business- that is fine! I need to understand WHAT you want to do in life to be able to assess whether you are being reasonable in this exercise. Also state WHERE you plan to work. Wichita and New York City have very little in common on many of these retention strategies.

Then, and this one is VERY IMPORTANT, make sure you do RESEARCH. Saying you want a salary of $250,000 as a 2nd grade teacher makes no sense. You need to understand pay scales- this is an HR course. You can find statistics online very easily for most jobs, although you may need to experiment with the titles a bit. Cite your research!

Exercise: The following is a list of some possible retention strategies. Rank each one in order of importance to you as an employee (1 being the most important). THEN- provide a description of what YOU think each one should mean for the career you are seeking at the type of company you are hoping to work for. The reason part is important is because different companies will define these things differently (I've provided a few examples below).
