You are the HR manager of T-tech electronics Ltd. You have recently hired Bob, an inexperienced recent

graduate as supervisor of a team. One of the employees working in the team is Alan, a senior machine

operator in the manufacturing department.

Bob's group had been working on an order for a major customer. Bob had set up a work schedule and

job assignments which Alan, through experience, knew would not be done on time. Alan suggested a

different sequence which Bob dismissed without discussion. The team began working on the order using

Bob's setup, but Alan switched everyone over the minute Bob left the area. The order was finished, on

time, without further incident. Bob later discovered what Alan has done and had a loud confrontation

with him in front of the entire group.

You have reviewed both the work plans and indeed Alan's setup finished the job by the date promised

to the customer. Bob's assignments would not have gotten the order out on time. Such a slip-up would

probably have cost your company any future business with the customer. On the other hand, Bob, as

the supervisor has the freedom to make decisions. Failure to support Bob will cause an immediate loss

of credibility throughout the entire department. As an HR manager, what disciplinary actions are you

going to take and why? Evaluate the situation and suggest how the situation could have been

handled?
