Needs Assessment 

The topic I chose is Stress Management during ECT days.Stress management is a set of techniques and programs intended to help people deal more effectively with stress in their lives by analyzing specific stressors and taking positive actions to minimize effects. Improving the quality and performance in the healthcare environment can help providers with a reliable, cost-effective, and sustained health care process. It enables them to achieve their goal of improving care delivery and enhancing patient positive outcomes. In my assessment in Unit 7 outpatient at RHU, where I am having my clinical right now, I observed that nurses were so busy during ECT days because the unit was so heavy in terms of patient loads and added extra tasks due to this pandemic. Having inadequate staffing in the unit could lead to nurses under pressure from the workload, feeling burned out and stress. When your team is stretched out beyond its limit, employees feel the pressure. They can feel hurried throughout their shift, and that leads many people to take shortcuts, pay less attention to detail and engage in other behaviours that put themselves and their teammates at risk. As a result, patient satisfaction will diminish, and even it might lead to human error when doing a nursing intervention. When employees are experiencing high stress or constant over time, they will get burned out which puts them at risk for illness. Therefore, it will be beneficial to deploy a part-time staff to help bridge the gap. 

According to Eric Erickson the stages of development, the middle adulthood is at their stage of generativity versus self-absorption ang stagnation they should be able to see beyond their need and accomplishments and view the needs of society. They can get assisted in choosing creative ways to foster social development (Potter & Perry, 2019). 

After presenting to the nursing staff and asked what their needs are, nurses are emotional and mentioned needing additional staff during ECT days. The unit clerk has the same thoughts and feelings. Staff approved my identified need analysis. Through the previous year, it has been a recurrent issue in this unit about understaffing. According to my observation, and involvement, the nurses agreed and validated my presentation of the topic. 

On the need analysis, the informal session would be the most appropriate way to utilize in presenting the impact of having short staff and teaching on ways to manage the stress on the team. I will encourage them to use deep breathing techniques, positive affirmations, the use of guided imagery and meditation. Furthermore, I am going to use resources like PowerPoint and videos to reinforce the concepts. After the teaching session, I am going to evaluate by exploring their feelings and concerns.  

My topic is beneficial to the staff needs which can help them manage their stress and potential health benefits physically, mentally, and emotional well-being.
