Question

At an amusement park, Alan and Betty are playing in bumper cars. Assume that all of the motion occurs in a

straight line and that friction between the cars and the ground is negligible. Alan and his car have a total mass

of 305kg, and are moving to the right with a speed of 1.8m/s. Betty and her car have a total mass of 295kg, and

are moving to the left with a speed of 3.4 m/s. The cars collide. After the collision, Alan bounces back and

moves to the left with a speed of 1.2 m/s. Find the velocity of Betty (and her car) after the collision.

In your solution, be sure to state the physics, to what and why it applies.
