Imagine you are at the mall with a friend, and you come across one of those magic eye pictures. You can see the hidden image, but your friend can't. They ask you how it works and why they can't seem to do it correctly. How would explain it to them?


"Magic Eye Picture" DEFINITION : When someone looks at a Magic Eye, the repeating pattern feeds the brain the depth information encoded into it, and the brain perceives the hidden picture. Using flat images, this was the first time scientists were able to trick the brain into perceiving depth - creating in the first stereoscope

To begin, I would explain that the Magic Eye images are related to how our eyes communicate with one another and with the brain. In order to see 3D images, the eyes must work together. Furthermore, I would explain that this happens due to Stereopsis. Our brain is combing two images and it's interpreting depth based on the differences between the right and left retinal information. To be more specific, it functions by dividing what one eye sees from what the other eyes see so that they transmit distinct signals, which the brain then integrates to perceive the picture. I would explain that the reason as to why they are unable to see the picture is because of the way they are trying to see the image or the technique they use to view the picture.
