Why does defining poverty accurately matter? Which measure would you go with and why?
Defining poverty accurately matters because setting a standard for those who belong to the poverty group so that the government can provide sufficient help to those families that need help.
We would go with the Supplemental Poverty Measure because such measure accounts for both over-counting factors such as taxes (will minus) and under-counting factors such as housing subsidies (will add) in poverty; supplemental poverty also ensures to take into account of more factors than relative measure which only focuses on the gap between standard of living and standard of people in the same society, so the Supplemental Poverty Measure more accurately calculates and reflects the households that are in poverty.
